this will be the first time that i've grown courgettes and i read somewhere that you're not supposed to water over the top of them but instead copiously around the sides, does anyone know why that is?

This is probably to help prevent fungus from growing on the leaves.

didnt think of that Ina! wont worry too much about it then, though good point about fungus Ben but wouldnt that apply to lots of other plants too? so blinkin confusing sometimes!!!

you can scorch the leaves i think, but i havnt had no problems and iwatered the leaves occassionally, also when it rains it rains on the leaves so i not sure it matters.
