I find it is hard for me to lose"weight" but measurements show that I am getting smaller as I am muscling up and losing fat at the same time. I can't be bothered actually measuring but sometimes I use a pair of snug non stretch pants to gauge mass loss as the scales don't really show too much for me.

It is possible
My stomach isnt quite so flabby as it was (tho still has a lot more flab to shift!).
Can't remember the last time i actually measured myself, so cannot compare that way. And just about all my wardrobe has elastic waists so again not easy to see progress

But if my Mum (who i see at least once a week, often more) has noticed a difference, something must have shifted!

I have bought some scales so I can weigh myself and check progress. If I weigh myself on the carpet it says I am 11 stone, if I weigh myself on lino I am 10 stone 3, I have decided the lino weight is the right one and therefore I have lost 4 pounds since I started  .

Although if the carpet weight is right I have put on half a stone, which would be a bit depressing.

Moral: do not buy cheap mechanical scales from T***o. You'd think I'd learn.

0ne pound down at 11st 2 :)

But tomorrow we go on holiday, so there will be 2 weeks of:

hotel breakfasts (i rarely eat breakfast at home)
sandwich-shop lunches (i usually have a salad & yoghurt)
restaurant evening meals (nuff said)
occasional ice-creams & other treats (well we will be on holiday!)

I will try to eat as sensibly as i can - search out shops that offer tubs of salad instead of just sandwiches for lunch, not have too many desserts in the evenings etc but i suspect I will put on some weight while i am away.

Anyone got tips for enjoying a holiday but minimising weight gain?

Lots of walking!

I'm not very good at resisting temptation on holiday but I always take my pedometer with me and try to do at least 10,000 steps a day. Last time I was away I only put on 2lb which was a result - I've been known to gain half a stone over Christmas!

Cautionary Tale!
I`ve lost two stones in a year after a heart scare. This has had three main effects.
1) Lots of lovely skinny clothes from charity shops. 2) People looking soulfully at me and murmuring, 'Are you all right, love?'
3) The layer of fat under my skin going to leave very visible wrinkles & my double chin turning into a turkey neck.
All right, it`s still worth it! No gain within whingeing I suppose.
We are stardust, we are golden, and we`ve got to get ourselves back to the garden.

Only 6kg to go despite having Egg McMuffin yesterday morning and a Filet o Fish meal last night! We were on a very long drive to see if our new house was still standing but I still imagine what it could have been without that calorific binge.

So I've lost 20kg and I've been trying to put that into proportion. Isn't that the baggage allowance on a non-Budget airline? Scary to think I was permanently dragging a packed suitcase around with me....
Growing old is much better then the alternative!

Bad news: I put on 4 lb while away on holiday
Good news: I have already lost 1 lb since getting home last wednesday

Still leaves me at 11st 5 lb tho -- so still a lot of effort needed to get under that elusive 11 st !

I've joined a Food for Thought Course which lasts nine weeks and which is supposed to help with my weight - there's too much of it. The idea is to change your eating habits long term and to bring your eating into line with your exercise. You may be encouraged to up the exercise and lower the heavy carb intake. It seems to be based on the no food is bad food but too much chocolate cake habits and eating between meals need to be amended a bit.

One comment that stuck out is that if you have been on various calorie counting diets, your body can see another one coming and reacts so that the more diets you do, the less effect there is over time. Can't remember the technical explanation but it made sense at the time.

Second week they asked us to keep a food diary of what we ate. It shows me my bad habits eating wise. Some are easy to handle. Like bread with the spread and not spread with bread and not picking up the odd bar of chocolate between meals (yep there is vegan chocolate) and not eating at regular times

So there's a start. I know I started at 13 stone 10 lbs (or near enough 187.25 kg but I do old style more easily) which hasn't gone up or down for the last year. Now 10 stone 7lbs (66 kg plus a bit) would be good as that would be a size 14-16. So instead of weighing myself I aim to drop a clothes size. Much more fun as I can then have a whole lot of new clothes

When? No rush but Xmas would be fun.

Flo, that sounds sensible( I am not sure about your mass calculations though, I am almost sure you weren't 187,25kg.. I am no good with stones etc is that 87.25kg?) Are you *ahem* vertically disinclined (a bit short?) as I am around 5''4' (can't get my apostrophes to work- some sort of hideous hot key issue) and I am about 67 kg and a size 12 (or 14 if it is a strange cut) so I think 66kg would have you at a smaller size no? Not weighing yourself is a good idea at any rate, I can drop a dress size without losing any scale weight, I am a muscly sort and so I lose fat and gain muscle at the same time.

Well spotted that typo Jessiebean. I'm supposed to be 5ft 4.75 inches so there is not a lot between us in height. My guesstimate of dropping two clothes sizes would certainly make us similar weights.

You want to see how sensible the shopping list is which is due from the supermarket today. Well sort of, there are some treats there but eaten carefully will add to the overall good.

I had the nagging last night about eating a large portion of vegetable based food for one meal and then an equally large helping of fruit crumble for the next meal - something to do with the balance of good nutrition ain't there. So they suggest I eat some of both at each meal and make fewer crumbles. Hmm - plums without the crumble eh? It was suggested that I have a scoop of ice cream instead but that doesn't sound exactly less calorific. But one to explore as she is a slim girl who suggested this.

I lost over a kg this week!!! :D YAY!!!
I've been super into losing weight recently so have been eating much healthier, have cut out all takeaways (minus the mcdonalds which happened on a night out) and am eating a lot more vegetables. I also started going to the gym every 2 days for around an hour and a half, doing 40-45 mins cardio and then weights. I am super happy :D My goal is to lose 5kg this month, and 15 by the end of the year. I SHALL SUCCEED!!! :D
