Time to delurk

Post: # 68018Post zaza »

Hello
I've just re-registered after months of lurking  and so I'm resolved to contribute to this wonderful forum. As a seasoned lurker I have to say this is about the friendliest and most informative place I've seen, so I shall try and conquer my shyness and join in.
I'm trying to live a selfsufficientish kind of life here in central France - moved here 4 years ago with my fiance (we're getting married next month). We are still slightly tied in to the old ratrace finance industry which we used to work in, but have managed to cut it down to a minimum so we can live frugally but happily, spending lots of time in our veggie patch, fighting weeds and bugs most of the time but occasionally growing some food.
We have nearly an acre of land altogether, a few walnut and fruit trees, a few kinds of berries, herbs and asparagus. I like a challenge so I try and grow some of every kind of vegetable as well, this year has been quite disastrous and we have no tomatoes, they all went kind of mouldy after all the rain, and blackbirds have eaten all the currants and blueberries, but I'm optimistic that next year will be different!
Anyway, thanks for having me, hopefully I'll see you around...

Great to meet you Zaza. I've had the same problems with my veg and fruit this year. The toms are OK ish as they are inside but everything else has almost given up. The only things that seem OK are the damsons which are absolutely gorgeous and the best I've ever tasted.

Cheers
Zoe

Thanks for all the welcomes, much appreciated. Now all I have to do is think of something interesting to say :? Maybe if I spent less time reading up on homesteading/gardening type stuff and more time actually doing it.....
Or I could ask a question perhaps, I know I've got plenty to learn!

I've found it really handy getting tips, feedback is always quick and there always seems to be someone who knows the answer or at lease a suggestion. I'm sure you'll be asking pretty soon!

Hi zaza, just browsing the site and thought I would get in touch, hope life in France is treating you well. You posted a response in my moon gardening thread, think it's great you have been gardening by the moon phases. As with you, I like the idea of having a time structure to work around. Keep in touch :flower:

Thanks MaryContrary, nice to meet you! Let me know if you ever want to know what the moon jobs are.....I might not be so good at getting out and doing them sometimes but I'm very dedicated to reading up on them
