Twist of fate..............

Post: # 82454Post chadspad »

On saturday my hubby and I went out shopping even though we had originally planned not to. Something my hubby wanted to buy wasnt available at a particular store so we decided to try another in the
next town, then changed our minds and went to a completely different town. We stopped and shopped, treated our son to a Mac and drove back cross-country in the beautiful sunshine.
Coming out of the wood and crossing the road infront of us was the sorriest looking dog I have ever seen. We continued to drive for a few mins when I said I had to go back and see if it was OK - hubby was pulling into layby to turn round anyway! When we got back and I approached she just laid on the road before me. She is so skinny it makes the dogs in the RSPCA ads seem positively obese. Hubby put her in the back of the van and we bought her home. We have named her Stella after our favourite beer! My other dogs have been marvellous with her, something I had been worried about as 1 of them isnt good with other dogs.
She doesnt smell too good even after a bath! One of her eyes is cloudy and waters a lot. She was probably a hunt dog and we think she looks like she might have Beagle in her. She had enuf strength today to wag her tail at me - which makes it worth while!
The photos dont show the extent of her weight loss - its totally horrific!

I feel extremely sorry AND extremely glad for her - clearly she wouldn´t have survived much longer without you taking her in.
I have 5 dogs, a couple of them waifs and strays (the old familiar story with Brits abroad) who were at deaths door when we found them. All I can say is that your good deed will no doubt be repaid tenfold with love, affection and loyalty.

Well done you and good luck Stella!

She does look like a hunt dog - they do sometimes get lost or abandoned. Usually if lost the hunters do look for them, as they can be dear to buy and train.

Lucky she found you. She doesn't look as though she had much left to go on with.

We have two additional kittens courtesy of our dog - who found one in the garden and bought it into the house, where it retreated under the sideboard, and the other followed it.

So scrawny and so close to demise - they are hard to resist.

well done - that'll become a very special dog - having had a long series of rescue dogs, they're always "special" :dave:

Well done for your kindness from me too. On a practical level - it might be worth asking your local dog warden or vet to check her to see if she's been chipped. If so they can trace the owner and if necessary kick their butt for abandoning her. Otherwise (I beleive) you can "foster" her for 28 days and after that she's yours. Good luck and a pat from me to Stella

She looks like she'll be a lovely dog once you've fed her up a bit - lucky her! All the best for you and Stella. :flower:

She does look like she'll be a lovely dog. It is sad to see them in such bad condition, although her fur looks good. Good for you for taking her in and looking after her. Will you keep her if you can?

poor girl - but lucky now

- her teats look like she may have recently had a litter - or is that due to her skinny condition?

aww, she's gorgeous!

Good luck with her rehabilitation.

Have you taken her to a vet yet (i'm not being patronising, i promise, i just get worried about ill animals - i know they don't usually show they're ill til they're really ill).

I do hope that for her sake, she gets o stay with you!

Is there any chance that she might just have been lost for a while? I ask because i live near a big forest where about 3 dogs a month go missing, and some aren't found for a long while - they smell rabbit and run!

If she's not lost, then i'd like to starve the people that have abandoned her!!

Thanks for kind wishes everyone!

Havent taken her to the vets yet - shes so weak at the moment I dont want to stress her unduly. Doubtful that she will be chipped but will ask. Also diffcult to locate where shes from or track down owners - if shes a hunt dog the chaisse sometimes travel miles to places to hunt.

It does look like she has had puppies at sometime - perhaps she was used for breeding.

For now just letting her get plenty of rest and trying to steadily feed her up.
