Can anyone recomend an easy sock pattern, I would love to make my own, but all the patterns I've seen involve 3 needles, I think I need to work up to that.
actually if any one can guide me in knitting with four needles I would be really happy I have done it in the past but I cant remember how you know where the rows start and end
the creative living forum has a how to knit socks guidethat is great.. really simple with lots of pictures . it uses DK wool - so makes thick chunky socks from everyday yarn. a really good place to start
but be warned.. once you made your first pair of socks.. you are addicted..

Thankyou That is a brilliant link!!!!
I'm going to go in search of double pointed needles tomorrow!!! They should keep me out of trouble for the next few months lol
right .. I am stuck three times I have tried the heel part and now I am thinking I am working on the wrong side ... please treat sock idiots gently ...
I have got to the nasty heel turning not for the first time should I be working on the short side or the long side to make the heel
Knit back and forward on these two needles, 1 row plain, 1 row purl (you could just do garter stitch here, if you don't purl, it will just look different)
for 14 rows in all to make the heel flap - one part of the sock will now be longer than the other:
Then when I move onto the next set of instructions, and it goes haywire.. should I be working on the constant stitches or the longer flap. I look just like this emoticon ... when I think of teh stuff I have knitted and this is just making no sense...
Next is turning the heel; follow these instructions, and it should work fine. Slip the 1st stitch without knitting, knit 18 , slip1, knit1, and pass the slipped stitch over it. Turn your work, slip the first stitch and purl 10 stitches, then purl 2 together. Turn, slip the first, knit 10, S1 K1,psso, turn. Keep on like this until all the stitches are used up, and you have made a little heel:
