Blueberries
I have 5 really great blueberry bushes in tubs. I top them up every year with pine needles to keep weeds down and keep the acidity (becuase I do the mortal sin of using tap water in extremely dry times) I also use sequestrated iron every 2 years, to keep acidity levels up. I put a top dressing of a ...

Non-lawn chamomile
I have some treneague and some of the non-lawn version. I regularly trim back the latter, and put the cuttings along with some dried lavender (of which I have loads) into a muslin bag and hang it over the hot water tap when I'm having an evening bath. It is soooooooo relaxing. It can be used for a f...

Squashes
I have butternuts producing in the greenhouse- about 6 inch long veg at present. I have a 'cover all bases' approach to gardening by having a greenhouse plant, a spare and one or two in the garden (it is quite early for putting them out here, but i haven't enough space in greenhouse). There tends to...

Sweetcorn
I'm so jealous of you guys who have 2 or 3 foot sweetcorn- mine is still less than a foot high and it's so blooming cold up here, it's sitting not doing much. Here's hoping it'll survive until the weather warms up. I don't really know how much success sweetcorn generally has in sunny aberdeenshire- ...

Elderberry recipes
I have posted quite a few elderberry recipes on the NEEPS forum (northeast environmentally friendly peoples site) but yes, there does seem to be more elderberries this year- usually they are eaten very quickly by birds and I think this could be a worrying sign that there are fewer birds in our hedge...

Sloes
Yeah, sloes are fine pre-frost. Just stick em in the freezer. I also made sloe wine from a recipe from internet. Made it 2 yrs ago and it's finished but wont clear. Tastes lovely though. If I made it again, would stick half a ripe banana in the must- that always helps. Always make sloe gin and sloe ...

Thanks!
Thanks Shirlz,
That's really nice to know. And you don't need to wait til I call to drop in for some ice cream. Have enough to feed the whole of Inverurie!
Can't remember if you have my mobile.
PM me if not.

Blaeberries
Wonderful versatile wee berries- wine, jam, sorbet, icecream, sauce to go on ice cream, and no doubt lots more recipes on the web.
Currently at their best, but they wont last much longer.
Find your nearest bit of mature pinewoods and they may be there.

Hi again
Hi Shiney, No I'm not in emergency services. Just tried to think of something I'd remember! Shirlz, I did actually think of asking you guys but its a fair way to come. Finally got a delivery company to sort it out and it should be coming this afternoon. Just as well as every space in the kitchen is ...

The final blaeberry forage
I'm hoping to do my last blaeberry collection this weekend. Got some plums from work too, so maybe a plum tart and some more blaeberry ice cream. I think i really ought to stockpile it. So hopefully wont run out too soon! I think it'd work well at the farmers market, but its the wrong time of year t...

Compost
Shirlz husband hopefully going to help me with compost bins this winter too- once my pumpkins have stopped growing on top of them, and once I use the compost that's there.
Strange satisfaction in spreading your own compost in the garden!
Maybe I'm just strange....

Pseudonyms
I think I'll just call you P!! Is that ok?? :flower: Hi Shirlz, U can call me whatever you like! Hopefully the NEEPs get together will help to allieviate some confusion- there are a few of us using different names in various fora. It's bit like a criminal network.....not that I'd know, of cou...

Lots of Aberdeenshironians indeed!
I may be known to some of you as other names. Pumpkinpie or Pauline.
I am getting confused by all my pseudonyms!
Cheers!

Hi all
Some familiar names there! Nice to 'meet' you all. Hope to chat to you guys in the future- now the weather is getting a bit more autumnal (well it is here) I am trying to do all the autumn jobs in the garden, as I know I will spending a lot more time indoors after September. Not looking forward to w...

That's very nice, but WHAT ABOUT DIGGING UP ASPARAGUS???!!! The thing is, they're on my allotment. I feel quite attached to them, especially as this year we had such a great harvest, but if digging them up isn't going to work then I'd much rather leave them for the next person. Help!!! I believe as...
