So we looked online for the element as while getting the old one out it crumbled to dust in OH's hands... anyway we started looking and found a few at a reasonable price but then found on at £9.99 + £5.00 delivery.
We knew there were a few spares places around here so we decided to go check them out see if we could avoid the £5.00 delivery.
Well, we must have "please try to rip us off" tattooed in some kind of invisible to us ink on our foreheads because they rubbish most of them came out with is unbelievable!!!
Ok first up was £35 +VAT and he was doing us a favour...
The second guy told us that it wasn't a normal part so it would be expensive and told us he would have to order it in specially £35.00 +VAT
They both looked completely put out when we told them we could get the part online for £9.99... as they guy round the corner who owns a second hand white goods shop told us was a reasonable price so we already knew they weren't £35.00 and upwards!
Our cooker is a Tricity Viscount, there are hundreds of them and the elements are not in any way a 'special part'.
Talk about rip off Britain! So the online place got our custom after all but it really bugs me that this happens ALL the time here. I got a quote from Partco for a battery fro the car not so long ago for £45... the guy down the road tried to tell me they were 'special parts' and told me it would be £175!!!

I mean... is it just London or does this happen to everyone everywhere?!
