Death by Chocolate

Post: # 23170Post Hillbilly »

For the perfect pick me up after weeding/really crappy week..

DEATH BY CHOCOLATE

Organic ingredients

8 oz (225 g) Green and Blacks dark chocolate (72% stuff)
140g butter
1 cup (210 g) sugar
4 eggs
4 heaped tablespoons (1 dl) all-purpose flour
4 tablespoons Green and Blacks cocoa powder
1½ teaspoon baking powder or 1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 tablespoons sour cream or creme fraiche

Filling and topping

About half a big bar of Green and Blacks chocolate of your choice
1 large tub of whipping cream

Method

Melt butter and chocolate together in a bowl over hot water.

Cream sugar and eggs together. Add flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and vanilla extract.

Fold butter and chocolate mix into this.

Line 2 x 9 inch cake tins with greaseproof paper and divide mixture evenly between the two. Bake in a moderate oven until skewer comes out clean (in my fan oven @ 160-170 for about 20 minutes).

When cool, slice crust off and eat it while making filling. Which you do my melting the chocolate over hot water again. Whisk cream until forms stiff peaks.

Use half the cream to sandwich the two cake bits together and whisk the choclate into the other half and smear all over the top of the cake. Decorate with grated chocolate and a dusting of icing sugar.

To eat

Smother with double cream and enjoy with a nice mug of tea and a mate

heeeee... I was the mate today :D YUMMY

It tastes every bit as good as it sounds and I have to say that I was amazed to see an entire cake on the table. If I'd made it I don't think I could have waited for my mate to arrive to start devouring it.

Jonathan enjoyed it too - in fact we had to go and pick up the ingredients on the way home

Thanks again Jo.... it was lovely to see you today.

But there is something so impressive about having an entire cake waiting for a mate! And it feels great.

I haven't properly baked in ages and I must get my finger out soon, we have a work thing next week and I was thinking of improvising some kind of rhubarb muffin to pass round, not sure how well that will work though!
