leaves??

Oh, right, my great uncle Roy used to make dandelion wine--that used leaves, but he also made rose wine, presumably from the petals or maybe the hips? and potato wine, all the berries, probably half the vegetables...I want to make blackberry wine from all the vines I see from my office window. We on...

Reason necessary to visit London?

Weell, yes, my brother is attending a wine developers' conference near London. It's quite a small affair. But my sister-in-law didn't want to travel with a three-year-old, hence my lucky invite.   And of course, I'd love to visit Scotland but unless there's a cheap cheap way...

I'll be coming from across the pond... in September (!!!)

Hey, was I surprised when my brother invited me to meet him in London next month! He lives in Hollywood, California and I live in Seattle, so this is a big deal and my first chance to see him since July of '05. I'll be in England a week or so starting the 16th; and if anyone has any suggestions for ...

goats and inedibles

Mike aka smooth hound, True, very true--about the washing line. I personally saw two goats shot because they got into the dogs' kibble and bloated. As far as ragwort, the goats' digestive sytem supposedly produces enzymes that destroy the toxins in it--or so I'm told. Don't take my word; but I know ...

Hi Matt!!

That is the best way--smother weeds and till minimally so our friends the worms can have at it... they make the best tillers ever, aerating and composting as they go. Throw leaves on it if you've got them...worms love 'em.

Good luck Matt! 8)

goats, chamomile

I found 10K chamomile seeds on the net! :dave:

Wish I could borrow the neighbors' goats but I would have to watch them or tether them. Actually I just wish for some land of my own!!!

toxic?

As far as I know, goats can eat ANYTHING. Chickens are selective. I don't think you need to worry if all you have a goats, poultry and dogs or cats.

st. john's wort

Funny to imagine someone planting this, we have it growing wild everywhere and it's toxic to cattle and horses. Makes them photosensitive. You could make a lot of money gathering it to sell for natural antidepressant over here!! I guess I'll have to look online for seeds since I want a chamomile/thy...

ice cream

I love ice cream! What on earth does goat ice cream taste like? Congratulations on the pretty new 'kids' Shirley! I got back from vacation Sunday night. While gone, I visited a herd of two dozen goats, of various breeds, and the nubians could produce a gallon a day! Rina is looking to disperse these...

I have never posted a photo before. I went to Flicker and gave this a shot.
If it works, it's the old gray mare. Not sure photos allowed for me yet.

horse

I've had an elderly arab mare for a little over a year, now. She can be cheeky but she's lovely and I'm learning all about the care and feeding. She doesn't look like she's in her thirties! She can be ridden but I've gotten topheavy over the years, apparently, so have to relearn how to ride. That is...

Hi Rusty

Another brother in the church o'vermicomposting! Amazing how the little guys can demolish a heap of yard & kitchen waste, isn't it! And such a wonderful result. Black gold. Many years ago I took a plywood box out of a truck and filled it to the top with leaves; bought a chinese takeout box full ...
