Wild Food
Wild food is natures larder. Myself and Dave (the selfsufficientish twins) have been interested in obtaining food from the wild since a very early age. We used to pick nettles and make them into soup and our parents would take us out to at weekends in late summer to pick blackberries.
These days we can't go on a country walk without scanning the area we are walking through looking for the wild food that nature has to offer. Sometimes we come back empty handed and other times we have bags full of stuff. I especially like foraging in the months that I am not growing much on my allotment.
I would highly recommend getting a mushroom identification book if you intend to forage yourself. As there are old mushroom pickers and bold mushroom pickers but never old bold mushroom pickers. If you wish to double check your mushrooms to ensure that you won't kill yourself then feel free to join our forum as we have an identification section. Many of us will join in if we are around so it will help you have peace of mind when identifing mushrooms. I can't stress enough that you have to be sure of what you are eating before you do when it comes to wild food.
Our articles in this section consists of my first wild food experience as an adult a little journey of misshaps really. Although my knowledge has vastly improved since that time I like to keep it there as I think many people will start off the same as I did. That is, with a lot of enthusasm and not much knowledge. It is worth remembering that if you go out with the intention of foraging food and leave everthing that you are not 100% sure of, at least you have had a good walk. Better still at least you can go out for a forage again.
There are also some recipes for wild food in this section as it is one thing identifying food and another knowing what to actually do with it. We will update this section over time adding new recipes and photos to help you identify wild food.
